About Union County Connect

Union County Connect is a community-based network that addresses issues of older adult loneliness and social isolation in Union County, Pennsylvania. We present opportunities for personal enrichment, civic engagement, and mutual aid to all county residents.

WE CONNECT OUR COMMUNITY BY:

•Fostering new relationships between community members
•Highlighting available opportunities and resources
•Actively seeking ideas from the community at large
•Exploring and supporting innovative solutions
•Building on the strength and potential of every resident

Our Approach

Experimental

In the spirit of innovation, we respect existing research while encouraging new local initiatives. We strive to collect and share local survey data, compile resource material, offer technical assistance, raise seed money, and champion small pilot projects.

Community-Based

You don’t have to be big to be mighty. We choose to remain an independent forum, encouraging a locally-developed personal, informal approach as a critical supplement to the work of formal agencies.

Collaborative

Together we accomplish more. UCC encourages ideas and participation from residents of all ages and backgrounds. We seek partnerships with local groups and businesses, and hope to share research and ideas with related organizations worldwide.

Positive

We believe in the positives of aging, the assets we possess as individuals and as a community. To that end, UCC focuses on actions that families and the "average" citizen can take to make life better for older adults and for themselves.

Hi! I'm Farida.

I volunteered to create this network because I’m passionate about community building — improving lives by building on the strengths of our neighborhoods, families, and citizens of all ages. In my 45-year career in aging, I’ve seen incredible accomplishments in the field, as well as countless lost opportunities for innovation. As things stand now, there will never be enough resources to meet even the basic needs of a growing older population.

But I believe that by working together creatively and locally, we can create promising solutions and improve lives. Union County Connect is about that. And it’s for many kinds of people. Whether you’re a person living alone, a professional working in the field, a caregiver, a neighbor, an entrepreneur, or someone looking for new friends and activities, there are great resources here for you.

I hope you check it out and let us know what you think – your ideas, your questions. Here are a few highlights that might interest you:
